October 2018 Event! SOYP 2018 with MANNA, The Spring Gardens, and St. Stephen's Green
We love YiP, and if we love anything more than we love YiP, its State of Young Philly week! This is our second year participating in the event series, and it keeps getting better. SOYP is an opportunity to showcase much of what we seek to show each month - if you are a young person in Philadelphia and want to make an impact, you are definitely not alone. The Spring Gardens
We know what you’re thinking - “Didn’t you volunteer with MANNA?” Yes, indeed, but we had also planned a great event with The Spring Gardens that had to be cancelled due to the weather. While the rain that day wasn’t much of an issue, the preceding hours were not ideal for the work we were going to be doing. It was a bummer for sure - we had 55 excited volunteers signed up to help out. We’ll get back to the Spring Gardens and their exceptional work another time!
MANNA Philadelphia
MANNA’s mission is to leverage the power of good nutrition as medicine to help those battling or recovering from disease. Their work brings together dietitians, chefs, drivers, and thousands of volunteers to cook and deliver nutritious, medically appropriate meals and provide nutrition counseling to neighbors who are battling life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, renal disease, and HIV/AIDS (via the MANNA website).
Our team was happy to help with a big annual effort to bake pies that are sold to fund Thanksgiving meals for families. A single pie can pay for a family of four - so it matches up perfectly with our mission to scale our impact! We built boxes, trimmed and cleaned vegetables, and even baked some pies! It was a lot of fun to get in the kitchen and mix things up for a good cause.
St. Stephen’s Green
Our #Afterjawn for October was extremely Jawn themed thanks to our friends at St. Stephen’s Green. They made sure we were stocked with Neshaminy Creek’s Juicy Ale With Nugget (JAWN) and even made sure to have some swag around for us. Thank you again to the team who gave us great service and beers throughout the afternoon!
