Happy National Volunteer Week

Celebrating Our Volunteer MVPs for National Volunteer Week

Every April, during National Volunteer Week (April 21–27, 2025), we take a moment to shout from the rooftops… Volunteers make the world go ‘round. Established in 1974, this special week is all about recognizing the time, talent, and heart that volunteers pour into their communities—not just here in Philly, but across the globe.

At VU PHL, we know that building community doesn’t happen by magic—it happens because you show up. Whether you’re hauling mulch, sorting supplies, or simply lending a helping hand and a good laugh, our volunteers are the ones who keep this engine running. Your time, energy, and talents are what fuel this community, and we couldn't be more grateful. Every Second Saturday, without fail, you roll up your sleeves (and sometimes your pant legs—shout out to those muddy days) to make Philly brighter, better, and bolder.

As the great Muhammad Ali once said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” And lucky for us, our volunteers are always on time with the rent—and usually early. So this National Volunteer Week, we raise a metaphorical (and possibly literal) toast to you: the champions of community, the heroes of the honeysuckle weed pile, and the reason we get to keep doing what we love. You’re the real MVPs, and we love you for it.

To celebrate this incredible community—and to keep doing the work we love—we’re throwing a party. Join us for our 2nd Annual Beers with Volunteers on Saturday, May 17 from 3–6 PM, starting at Love City Brewing and ending at Triple Bottom Brewing. It’s our way of saying thank you (and cheers!) to the folks who make VU PHL what it is. Grab your crew, raise a glass, and help us keep the good going. Register here!
