With the recent spread of coronavirus in the U.S. and daily changes in its status in our area, the nearly 700,000 people facing hunger in our area may experience even greater food insecurity with school closings and seniors urged to stay in their homes and those with compromised immune systems opt not to attend public food distributions.

Philabundance is looking into plans for emergency food distribution, possibly in the form of boxed meal kits, which will include non-perishable, shelf-stable items that people can keep for a long time. They’re avoiding the kinds of items that involve a lot of hands on them, like produce.
