Voices of VU PHL: Meet Kant Khatri!

In our first Voices of VU PHL post of 2020, we are excited to introduce you to Kant Khatri, our board VP and a founding member of VU PHL! Read on to learn more about Kant’s connection to Philly and why giving back to your community is a great way to form new relationships and meet friends.

Kant Khatri, Vice President of the VU PHL Board!

How did you get involved in VU PHL?

I was fortunate enough to be one of the founding board members of VU back in 2017. Allora and Joe (who I know through Temple) asked me to get involved because they knew I would be passionate about volunteering and making an impact. Since I also went to school in Philly and work here, it made sense to start giving back to my city and VU PHL was a great avenue to do that. The rest is history as I joined the board and haven’t looked back since!

What is your favorite part of volunteering with VU PHL?

My favorite part of VU PHL is all the new people I get to meet through events and making new non-profit connections. Everyone has a unique story that brought them to VU PHL and I am always eager to learn more about them.

Why is giving back so important to you?

Giving back is important to me because as I see Philadelphia progress and flourish in many ways, it’s tough to see the communities and areas it is leaving behind. Giving back, especially through VU PHL, helps me feel like I’m making a difference. There is still a long way to go, but any little but we can do to help is important.

What advice do you have for young Philadelphians looking to get more involved in the community?

Come to a VU PHL event or check out our website to see past events and find a non profit you are passionate about. Finding a reason to give back is a great way to set roots in a community and make friends. I have seen many relationships form this way through VU and always encourage people to be on the lookout for new ways to get involved.

Can you give us a recap of our December event at PCC?

PCC as usual was a great event. This time we were at a new warehouse location which needed a lot of help cleaning up and organizing. We had a high turnout of volunteers and we set to work breaking apart piles of wood, organizing various sections of the warehouse, de-nailing old doors and a bunch of other tasks. After PCC we headed over to Interstate Drafthouse in Fishtown for some refreshments and much needed rest!
